turbulence

Definition

Motion of fluids in which local velocities and pressures fluctuate irregularly, in a non-laminar manner, as when a stream meets an obstacle, or air flows over an uneven surface. Such fluid motion is created by the agitation of liquids by currents, jetting action, winds or stirring forces (i.e., propellers). Often employed to describe the state or condition of being violently agitated or disturbed.
