regression

Definition

(1) Reactivation of older evolutionary behaviour patterns under reduction of higher levels of development. (2) Falling back to earlier, immature levels of instinct. (3) Reduction in geographic distribution of a species or strain. (4) A relapse following an improvement in the diseased state. (5) An expression of the relationship between two (or more) variables usually given as a regression line (curve) with an associated equation. This shows the manner in which the dependent variable changes as a function of changes in independent variables.
