PCR

Definition

Polymerase Chain Reaction. Method to exponentially amplify specific regions of DNA using primers and a heat-stable DNA polymerase. This technique may be coupled to the reverse transcription of a specific RNA (RT-PCR) producing an amplified double-stranded DNA that is complementary to the target RNA. In some cases it is possible to detect and identify a single target DNA molecule with this technique.
