Definition

(1) ) Behavioural. Periodic movements of aquatic and other organisms for the purpose of reproduction, feeding, and / or wintering; in some cases involving a change in habitat type, e.g., migrations of anadromous fish such as salmon, catadromous fish such as eels. (2). Genetic: Movements of individuals from one population to another, resulting in genetic drift; affects gene frequency and is a major contributor to evolutionary processes and is therefore important in designing breeding programmes.
