Definition

The science which deals with the measurement of the physical features of the oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, and other water bodies and their adjacent land areas, with special reference to the elements that affect safe navigation, and the publication of such information in a suitable form for the use of navigators. Hydrographic conditions are particularly important in aquaculture to decide on site selection and system design.
