analysis of variance
A statistical analysis in which multisample comparisons are performed through partitioning of sources of the total variation. This procedure is used for evaluating the equality of means of a series of samples by testing if they are drawn from populations having the same distribution, through comparing the ratio (F-tests) of components of the total variation. These estimates are derived from the overall variance between and within all subsamples. Commonly referred to as ANOVA.
