An 18-carbon fatty acid with two methylene-interrupted double bonds; has 6 carbons from the last double-bond to the methylene; hence, W6 or n-6, e.g. 18:2 n-6. Animals are unable to synthesize this or other fatty acids with the n-6 double-bond structure.
