BOUCHOT CULTURE
Definition
Method of culturing mussels that is primarily used along the French Atlantic coast but is applicable to other areas with a high tidal flux. Spat are collected by larval settlement on ropes suspended in the sea. Ropes with young mussels are transported to the on-growing area and wrapped around poles (i.e. bouchots) embedded in the intertidal zone.
