YOLK SAC

Definition

A sac-like organ that encloses the yolk. It is typical for embryos which develop from telolecithal eggs. In fishes, the yolk sac is formed from the external areas of the disco-blastula where initially the ectoderm and later the entoderm and parietal and visceral germ layer of the mesoderm envelop the yolk.
