VIBRIOSIS

Definition

An acute systemic bacterial disease caused by Vibrio anguillarum. The disease occurs most frequently in marine fish, but has become established also in certain freshwater fish populations. Losses are especially catastrophic during springtime in juvenile anadromous salmonids after their transfer to seawater and in marine culture operations. The disease can be controlled by systemic antibacterials; an efficient vaccine exists.
