Definition
A mature male germ cell consisting usually of a nucleus, a central region (accommodating the mitochondria) and a flagellum. Sperm released into the water is commonly called aquasperm while sperm transmitted for internal fertilization is called introsperm. Most teleost sperm heads are round though some are elongated. In several groups, sperm have two flagella and curved heads.
