Definition
Benthic community of microscopic organisms which develop in fresh water environments that are heavily polluted by sewage effluents. It appears as an attached macroscopic growth which forms a white or light brown slime. It is usually the bacteria Sphaerotilus natans, not a fungus, that dominate in the sewage fungus community.
