Definition

These have a normal distribution and are determined by a large number of genes and influenced by environmental factors. They include growth rate, body weight, age at sexual maturation, aspects of harvest quality and disease resistance. These can be used as measures of performance in individuals or stocks of fish and can be selected for in breeding programmes.
