LYSOZOME (MURAMIDASE)

Definition

An enzyme found in the blood and also secreted by skin and mucus membranes which attacks glycoside bonds in muropeptides. Structured components of bacterial cell membranes. Lysozome is an important component of the non-specific immune system attacking Gram positive bacteria. Elevated levels of lysozome are occasionally taken to indicate chronic infection.
