GREEN WATER

Definition

The enhancement of natural food chains in ponds or tanks by nutrient enrichment, as a means of increasing food supply to an aquaculture species. In Japan, for example, green-water technology is used in the culture of eels. In the culture of marine fish larvae, the food chain includes microalgae, rotifers and often copepods.
