I.P.N.

Definition

Infectious pancreatic necrosis: an acute, contagious, systemic Birnavirus disease, usually affecting fry and fingerling salmonids, and gives rise to a high juvenile mortality rate. The IPN virus, originally thought to affect salmonids only, has now been found in a range of non-salmonid fish. The IPN virus occurs as multiple strains that differ in virulence and serological response. It has a worldwide distribution and may be the most widespread of the aquatic viruses.
