Definition

Excessive growth. (1) In pathology: abnormal increase in size of cell or organ. (2) In limnology: excessive level of primary production based on an oversupply of nutrients. In conventional pond culture, often induced on purpose at the beginning of the production cycle via the addition of fertilizers.
