HYDROPONICS

Definition

A system of plant culture in which the growing plants have their roots immersed in a nutrient rich solution or in an inert substrate which is irrigated with nutrients. In aquaculture, this technology is often employed as a treatment method in recycling systems to, eliminate in part the nitrogen and phosphorus produced by fish metabolism. The marketable by-products most commonly obtained are lettuce and tomatoes.
