HATCHING TROUGH

Definition

A container or unit utilized to hatch fish eggs. For example, in catfish culture hatching troughs may be fitted with paddle wheels. The eggs are placed in baskets and the action of the paddle wheels causes a gentle motion of the egg masses, allowing for the passage of highly oxygenated water over each egg. An elongated tray is also used for incubation and hatching of the eggs of many other fishes, especially salmonids.
