GH

Definition

Growth hormone: a peptide hormone, secreted by the anterior pituitary, whose primary function is the regulation of growth through enhanced feed uptake and improved feed conversion. Stimulation of the growth of fish may be induced by the administration of exogenous GH or by integration of GH genes into the fish genome (transgenic fish). Such practices are subject to regulatory control in many countries. Syn. somatotropin.
