SEMI-INTENSIVE CULTURE

Definition

Generally used to describe a method of farming in which only part of the life cycle of the cultured organism is under managed control. Usually early rearing is controlled and subsequently the organism is released for ongrowing. The term, however, is not clearly defined. All intensity levels are subject to interpretation. The term must be used along with a clear description of the intensity level employed, preferably by providing numbers in terms of stocking density, feeding level or other factors.
