FIN ROT (FIN EROSION)

Definition

A progressive erosion and disintegration of fish fins. Several species of bacteria have been isolated from outbreaks, but the main contributory causes in aquaculture are thought to be crowding and nutritional imbalances, especially in the vitamins. Treatment and control are effected by external antibacterials, sanitation and management. Also, a condition in feral fish considered to be the result of bacterial infection following debilitation caused by adverse environmental conditions.
