FEED CANNON

Definition

A specific type of automated feeder commonly used in large-scale culture to distribute feed over a wide area. They may be stationary or mobile: the former type is usually operated by air blown through a hose pointing towards the pond, the angle of which can be varied to reach different parts; the latter move on self-propelled feed trolleys. Often operated from a wagon pulled behind a truck while moving along dikes. Blowers may be automatic or fed by a central compressor controlling feed dose, size and number of ration, and frequency of feeding. In salmon cage farming, these are used most frequently with feeding barges.
