LETHAL CONCENTRATION

Definition

Term used to express quantitatively the degree of toxicity of a substance. In this case it is the death of the test organism which is the criterion of toxicity. LC is expressed numerically, e.g. LC50, LC70 indicating the percentage of organisms killed at a given concentration. The time of exposure to the toxin is also given.
