BILE

Definition

A substance (greenish-brown alkaline fluid) which is first produced by the gallbladder, before being discharged into the intestine, thus aiding digestion. Bile performs a number of functions; for example it emulsifies fats and neutralises the low pH of semi-digested food as it leaves the stomach and enters the small intestine.
