AMINO ACID

Definition

Amino acids are small organic acids containing an amine (-NH2) group and a carboxylic acid group (-COOH).They are the basic building blocks of proteins. Following digestion, free amino acids are absorbed from the intestine and distributed by the circulatory system to organs and tissues. There are 20 amino acids in total and in fish, 10 have been identified as essential dietary ingredients.
