AIR LIFT SYSTEM
Commonly used device for recirculating, lifting and aerating water. It involves the insertion of air (bubbling) at a level below the water surface, resulting in water and air being displaced upwards. When such a device is used primarily to aerate water, it is termed an air lift. When its primary function is to pump water, it is termed an air lift pump (also called air water lift). If its sole use is to lift solids from the bottom of an aquaculture facility, it is commonly termed an air-lift system. Such systems have also been modified to remove fish from cages for harvest and/or dead fish from the bottom of cages.
