MONOSEX CULTURE

Definition

The selection or rearing of a single sex of a given species in an aquaculture unit in order to avoid uncontrolled reproduction or to obtain higher yields. Commonly used with salmonids and tilapias in which there is a dichotomy between the growth of the two sexes that is activated after the onset of sexual maturity. Syn: single sex culture.
